Health & Safety Program:
Corporate Culture of Safety
Safety is a practice that permeates our entire corporate culture. An excerpt from our Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP) states: "The RBA Team is totally committed to the safety for all personnel. RBA requires that all subcontractors and visitors to the project site accept the same commitment. Each project participant will assist in satisfying contractual, legal and moral commitments, in addition to maximizing safe practices." Through partnering relationships with our various municipal and federal clients, RBA realizes that client commitment to safety runs deep. As with RBA, many of our clients include the Army Corps of Engineers (EM-385-1-1) and Cal-OSHA standards as the basis for their health and safety programs. These standards are among the most stringent and comprehensive in the country. We also realize that our clients are a tremendous source of information in the development of our site-specific health and safety plans. Therefore, we routinely partner with our customers and end users to identify potential hazards, health and safety issues, and remedies in the preconstruction phase. These partnering efforts have resulted in safer, more productive project sites.
Safety First
At RBA, safety begins well before the project begins. As we begin the constructability analysis of a project, each phase of the work is reviewed for potential hazards. After the completion of our analysis, a list of potential hazards is compiled and forwarded to our Activity Hazards Analysis (AHA) Review Team. The makeup of RBA's AHA Review Teams can change from project to project. Approximately one half of RBA's staff is comprised of registered professionals of various disciplines including: civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, systems control engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, chemists, contractors, and inspectors. Depending on the scope of a particular project, the composition of the AHA Review Team will change to suit the needs of the project. By involving other experienced members of RBA's team into the review process, we increase our chances of identifying potential hazards and their remedies, thus decreasing the likelihood of accidents on the job site.
Investment in Safety
At RBA we realize that formalizing a site-specific health & safety plan is only the first step in achieving jobsite safety. RBA has retained a safety consulting firm, SMART Safety Group (SMART), to ensure our compliance with our corporate health & safety program as a whole, as well as site-specific plans. SMART continually monitors our progress by providing routine and random audits and inspections. They are also responsible for reviewing and updating corporate policies and procedures, providing requisite training and actively participating in RBA safety committee and jobsite meetings. SMART is so much more than a firm hired to "look over our shoulder." They have become another valuable partner in helping us to maximize safety awareness among all RBA employees and our affiliates.
The Greatest Reward
It has been said that "safety is its own reward." As employees of RBA, we realize that the greatest reward to result from a successful Health & Safety Program is, in fact, the health and safety of our team members. It is our goal to send every employee safely home to their families at the end of each day.
RBA has consistently received "Outstanding" evaluations from our customers for our health & safety jobsite activities. We have a track record of zero lost day accidents, and maintain consistently low Experience Modification Ratings.
